Several years ago, I visited the Grand Canyon. There is only one word to describe the Grand Canyon, and that is awe. I remember standing on the edge and trembling. But it wasn’t from a fear of heights. I simply could not believe what was before my eyes. I could not fathom that a force could cut the earth that deep and that wide and create something that enormous.
It was not until years later that I considered the nature of that force. The force that created the greatest natural monument on earth is water. What I want you to consider is this. If water is powerful enough to create the Grand Canyon, it is powerful enough to destroy any building in Charleston.
It might destroy it dramatically. A hurricane wave might knock a building down. But more than likely, it will be less dramatic. A plumbing failure might fill your house with water. In one hour your ceilings may collapse. In 12 hours your kitchen cabinets may permanently lose their shape. In 24 hours your wood floors may buckle. In a few days, your white walls can turn black with mold.
Out of control, water is the most destructive element in your home.
The good news is that the harmful effects of water can be dramatically reduced when they are quickly addressed. Most affected building materials can be saved when they are properly mitigated by a certified water mitigation professional.
